Parking permit information for first-year students

First-year students are mailed a parking permit packet in mid-July when the Office of Residential Life sends out housing assignments. International students who would like to purchase a parking permit should contact Trisha Hines-Morrison.

Students have until Aug. 15, 2023, at 12 p.m. to return their registration forms and payments to be part of the first-year housing lottery. (Forms and payments received after that are processed on a first come, first served basis.)

Full year: $220 (includes fall, J-term, and spring) 
Fall semester only: $120 (does not include J-term)
Fall semester and J-term: $160

Make checks payable to Augustana College and include the student ID number in the memo area. Include both copies of the registration form.

Permit pick-up will start on Monday, Aug. 28. Permits are not mailed to students.

Lottery information

Returning students are allowed the first chance at parking. They are given all of June and July to buy a parking permit. On Aug. 15, Facilities Services will tally up all the permit purchase requests from first-year students based on their housing assignments, and then tally up how many spaces still remain in each residence area parking lot.

Example: 

Andreen Hall has 37 parking spaces remaining on Aug. 15 and there were 22 requests from first-year students for parking at Andreen Hall. No lottery would be necessary because this is enough parking to accommodate all requests. 

What if there aren’t enough spaces?

If there were 42 requests for Andreen Hall and only 37 spots available, a lottery for that parking lot ONLY will occur. All 42 requests are put into a lottery and 37 names are drawn at random. Those 37 chosen names will be placed in the Andreen parking lot. The other five first-year students would be placed in the next closest available spot, and would be notified.  

What is the next closest available spot? 

This information will not be available until requests for each residence hall have been processed. All residence halls have additional parking lots within a 2-5 minute walk.

Reminders:

• Facilities cannot take credit card information over the phone.

• Facilities cannot hold a spot while waiting for mail from a student.

• Electronic receipts and pick-up instructions are sent to the student's Augustana email after payments are processed.
