Opening for fall semester
Dining Services will open for dinner starting on Wednesday, Aug. 26, for students participating in Orientation.
All stations will be open, and there will be a large selection of hot and cold Grab & Go options for students who want to take their meals to go.
Other student meal plans will start on Sunday, Aug. 30.
Changes due to COVID-19
Dining Services are restricted during the COVID-19 outbreak. Dining currently is closed for the summer.
While dining may look different in the fall of 2020, Dining Services aims to provide the same high quality of food and service. All food venues on campus will be open this fall.
Contactless dining, as much as possible, will be used. The typical self-serve, buffet-style dining will be replaced by food served by staff.
Cashier stations at all locations will accommodate contactless ID and credit card swipes rather than a transfer from student to cashier.
Students will be expected to wear masks in the dining center until they sit down to eat their meals. Students can eat in the dining center, in groups of six people or less.
Capacity in the space will be about 50 percent of what it has been. Additional spaces will be available within the Gerber Center and on the Gerber Center patio.
To allow for physical distancing, limited seating only will be provided in sit-down areas. Tables and chairs will be taken out of use, and diners will need to practice physical distancing in lines.
Pre-packaged "grab-and-go items" will be available. The quantity and variety of these items will be greater than in previous years. Diners will have fresh, cold (salads, wraps, etc.) options and fresh, warm meals.
The plan is to serve eat-in, warm food from the current dining stations. Dining staff, who have received extra safety and healthy training, will do the serving.
Cleanliness and sanitization will be enhanced for fall 2020. High-touch surfaces will be cleaned frequently. Dining staff will wear masks and gloves.
The salad bar will be repurposed temporarily.

Whether you want to enjoy a sit-down dinner with friends or grab a quick burger on your way to class, you’ll find what you want to eat at Augustana.
Augustana’s main dining hall in The Gerber Center for Student Life has individual marché stations to serve fresh, fast and made-to-order options. Choose from Chinese, Indian, Italian and Mexican food. Also vegetarian, soups and salads, seafood, burgers and sandwiches, desserts — and a variety of other dishes, depending on the day.
The Gerber Center dining room offers a four-week rotating menu. These menus are created at the beginning of each academic year by our talented staff.
Daily menus accommodate preferences and requirements for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and Halal foods.
Dining services also uses produce and meats from our on-campus Augie Acres and local farms, uses biodegradable containers, and partners with local growers to compost food waste.
Another great part about the dining center? It’s right upstairs from the Tredway Library and the Learning Commons, so you can break for a meal in the middle of your studies.
If you’re in the Gerber Center and just need a quick latté and bagel, you’ll find pastries, grab-and-go food and coffee drinks (and an outdoor patio) in the Brew by the Slough. The Brew also provides a great setting for live performances by students and local musicians and comedians.
The Westerlin Market in Westerlin Residence Hall sells snacks and other quick needs every day and night of the week, and Gus' Snack Bar offers sandwiches and lighter fare for students hanging out in the Brunner Theatre Center, or just passing through.
Meal plans, credit and debit cards, cash, checks and Viking Bucks are accepted at all locations
