Why Kennedy Sperry ’28 applied Early Decision

“As soon as I toured Augie and felt the atmosphere, I knew this was the place I needed to be for the next four years.”

For Kennedy Sperry ’28, Rocky Mount, Missouri, finding the right college meant finding the right balance: a close-knit academic environment with the energy and opportunities of a larger college. After exploring several Division III schools, Augustana stood out.

“When touring Augie, it checked all of my boxes regarding small class sizes, a walkable campus, a lot of green space, diverse buildings, Greek life and a good student population,” Kennedy said.

She was especially drawn to the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with professors and peers while having a vibrant student experience. Augustana was just the right size: not too big, not too small.

“I didn’t want to attend a small school where there was barely anyone on campus,” she said. “I like knowing a lot of people, but I am also comfortable with not knowing every single face on campus. It makes it more exciting and still makes it feel like a college atmosphere to me.”

Kennedy also appreciated the opportunities Augustana offered beyond the classroom, including internships, clubs and Greek life.

“Augustana had everything I wanted and made me realize that it had things I would need and want for my future, such as resources on campus, internship connections, clubs and Greek life.”

As someone who has always been a planner, Kennedy was ahead in the college search process. Once she knew Augustana was where she wanted to be, applying Early Decision felt like the natural choice.

For students considering Early Decision, Kennedy encourages them to focus on what matters most to them and trust their instincts.

“Everyone is different, and that is why it is key to trust yourself,” she said. “You know what you like and what you don’t like, but don’t let this close you off from experiencing new things. You might surprise yourself!”

Her decision to choose Augustana continues to shape her college experience.

“I can say confidently that choosing Augie was the best decision I ever made and has shaped me into someone I am proud to be.”
