It was Avery Frick’s family who finally convinced her to apply Early Decision to Augustana.

“They said you know that’s where you want to go, and there are fewer applications so you have a better chance of getting in,” said Frick, a first-year student. “And they were right. So I did.”

Once accepted, Frick felt good about having the decision behind her and knowing where she was going to be — all before Christmas of her senior year in high school.

Augustana appealed to Frick because it was the size she wanted (2,500 students) and was close to her home in Geneva, Ill. (two-hour drive). Plus, she knew two students from Geneva Community High School who were attending Augustana.

One of four first-year golfers for the Vikings, Frick was a top scorer in a recent scrimmage.

Excited to continue playing golf in college, Frick met with Coach Tom Lawrence on one of her campus visits. “He was super welcoming, and that was important to me,” she said.

Augustana also topped Frick’s list because she’s considering an accounting major. The college’s reputation for preparing and placing their accounting majors in top firms is no secret.

Most of Augustana’s accounting majors complete internships at the Big Four accounting firms (Deloitte, Ernst & Young, KPMG, PricewaterhouseCoopers) and other Top 10 national and regional firms. The majority of these internships lead to full-time offers. In fact, many accounting majors are offered full-time jobs before they graduate.

“I have no regrets about applying early,” she said. “I’m happy here. I would tell high school seniors that if they know they want to come to Augustana, there’s no reason not to apply early.”
