SWEA Los Angeles records, 1978-2014
The Swedish Women’s Educational Association International, Inc. (SWEA) is a global non-profit organization for Swedish speaking women who live or have lived outside Sweden. The organization has chapters throughout the world. SWEA was founded in Los Angeles in 1979 by Agneta Nilsson. The collection includes binders of information related to the SWEA Los Angeles chapter including financial statements, meeting minutes, Christmas bazaars, programming, correspondence, pictures, Swedish Hollywood stars information, and more.
Collection on Bishop Hill Colony (Ill.), 1856-1917
This collection was compiled by Peter Wislander of Henry County, Illinois. It includes a naturalization document for a colony member, money printed for Bishop Hill, receipts, contract of dissolution of the colony, and a quit-claim deed for property in the colony. Bishop Hill, a communal colony, was founded in 1846 by Erik Jansson and his religious followers who sought freedom from religious persecution in Sweden.
