Campus update for May 18, 2020

May 18, 2020

Dear students,

Fall classes? Sloughfest? And what about Greek life and athletics? Campus Update tries to answer these questions and so does the Augustana Observer.

See the Observer Q&A on these topics and more. If you still have a question, reply to this email.

Get ready for the May 23 "virtual graduation"

Here is the link for Saturday's Conferral Ceremony, starting at 2 p.m. Program information to come.

Speaking of graduation: We will be outside of Old Main on Friday with an Augie A for graduation photos. Come any time between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to get your photo taken. If you are in the Quad Cities area or still on campus, you are welcome to stop by.

Plan to wear a mask when not being photographed and practice social distancing.

Today's updates:

• All Augie Choice summer internships must be registered through CORE. May 22 is the preferred deadline. June 2 is the very last day to register your internship and apply for Augie Choice for summer internships.

• Campus Cupboard will be open Wednesday from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

• Coronavirus did not stop Classics from having a great year, as reported in the recent department newsletter.

• As of July 1, Tredway Library will end use of Refworks due to rising subscription costs. Those using Refworks will need to transfer their accounts to an alternative platform by June 30. Here is a transition guide. Direct questions to your liaison librarian.

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and it has been federally recognized since 1978. Why May? Because the first Japanese immigrant arrived in the United States in May 1843.

The Office of Student Inclusion and Diversity encourages us to learn about this heritage by: Watching a documentary, such as Minding the Gap by award-winning director Bing Liu; creating Asian inspired dish; or reading some of the fascinating stories shared by  the National Park Service.
