CONTENT AND STRUCTURE

Administrative/Biographical History:    
Erik Waldemar Welander was born in Skärblacka, Kullerstads socken, Östergötland, Sweden on 28 May 1889 to Erick and Gerda Welander. He was the oldest of twelve brothers and one sister. He came to the United States at the age of 16 on 5 July 1905 and settled in Moline, Illinois. At 21, he married Selma Johnson on 24 November 1910 in pilot Mound, Iowa. They had two children: Evelyn and Eric. They joined First Mission Covenant Church of Moline, Illinois on 7 December 1919. He served as treasurer and trustee of the church, recorder for Western Mutual Insurance Company and Rock Island County Supervisor. He was active as a horticulturist and one of the founders of Tri-City Dahlia Society (1941-1942). He served as treasurer of Tri-City Committee of Swedish Pioneer Centennial Association, 1946-1948. He died 5 January 1962.

Scope and Content:    
The collection consists of a typed funeral service program/outline for Erik W. Welander on 8 January 1962 and a copy of the American-Swedish Monthly Swedish Pioneer Centennial issue for June 1948. Welander is pictured on page 77.
