The Swedona Lutheran Church (Swedona, Mercer County, Illinois) was organized 7 March 1859 with 183 charter members. The town was first named Berlin. Collection includes one record booklet of ministerial acts (communion) from Berlins Evangelical Lutheran Församling from 1859-1861.

CONTENT AND STRUCTURE

Administrative/Biographical History:    
The Swedona Lutheran Church (Swedona, Mercer County, Illinois) was organized 7 March 1859 with 183 charter members. Swedona is believed to have been platted in 1833 and first settled by people of German descent. The town was first named Berlin. The name was changed in 1869 when the number of Swedes outnumbered any other nationality. Jonas Swenson served as the first pastor of this congregation; Andreas Andreen was the first resident pastor. 

Scope and Content:    
Collection includes one record booklet of ministerial acts (communion) from Berlins Evangelical Lutheran Församling (later Swedona Lutheran Church) from 1859-1861. Includes names from Hickory Grove, Berlin, and Bourn.
