The Swedish Women’s Educational Association International, Inc. (SWEA) is a global non-profit organization for Swedish speaking women who live or have lived outside Sweden. The organization has chapters throughout the world. SWEA was founded in Los Angeles in 1979 by Agneta Nilsson. CONTENT AND STRUCTURE
The Swedish Women's Educational Association (SWEA) is a global non-profit organization for Swedish speaking women who live or have lived outside Sweden. SWEA was founded in Los Angeles in 1979 by Agneta Nilsson. The mission of the organization is to promote Swedish culture, the use of the Swedish language, to facilitate personal and professional contacts and to establish networks for its members across the world.
The local chapters support various projects with Swedish connections such performances of Swedish artists, exhibits, lectures, and seminars. Swedish Christmas, Lucia, and Midsummer celebrations are other important events sponsored by at the local level.
Scope and Content:
This collection contains 17 binders related to the SWEA Los Angeles chapter. Topics include financial statements, Christmas bazaars/fairs, fundraising, programming, correspondence, pictures from 10th anniversary dinner in 1989, Swedish Hollywood stars information, and more.
