Bikes, the Chicago fire department and Augustana

During the course of this school year, Augustana faculty members donated another 33 bikes to a program run by Fire Engine Co. 16 in one of Chicago’s poorest neighborhoods. On June 6 at a special event, those bikes, along with several hundred more, will be given to students who have had perfect or near perfect attendance and good records in school.

Pole vaulter Mackenzie Butcher ’19

Pole vaulter balances academics, activities and athletics

Mackenzie Butcher, a pole vaulter from Colorado Springs, Colo., qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championship in her first season after a tie with her CCIW conference competition. She cleared 11 feet, 7¾ inches to tie for 12th at the indoor nationals. Her record height is 12-2 ½ — the third-highest pole vault in Augustana history.

What’s new in athletics? Three sports, two coaches

The spring sports season may have been canceled, but the Augustana athletics program hasn’t slowed down in recent months. The college has added three varsity sports for a total of 28 teams—the most for any CCIW school—and two new head coaches.
