SAC P:150 Charles August Johnson biographical notes

Charles August Johnson was born in Sweden in 1842 and came to the United States in 1868. Johnson became interest in ornithology after hearing and seeing tropical birds during his early seaman years abroad. He carved and painted hundreds of realistic birds from wood. The collection contains three pages of typewriting biographical notes from various sources titled “Writeups Concerning Mr. Charles August Johnson, Bird Carver: Collection Given Augustana Historical Society.”

SAC P:148 Karl Gösta Gilstring clippings

Karl Gösta Gilstring was a priest, teacher a collector of folk memories. For over 50 years he collected oral stories of people living in Östergötland and northern Småland. The collection consists of newspaper clippings related to Gilstring's 1971 cultural award which he received for his collection of immigrant tales, largely from Canada and the United States.

SAC P:147 Leland Horberg manuscript, circa 1932

Leland Horberg was a student at Augustana College from 1929 to 1932. Collection consists of Horberg’s typewritten manuscript “Janson and the Bishop Hill Colony, a Study of a Sectarian Group,” most likely written for a class at Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois sometime between 1929-1932.

David Warren Swanson attended Augustana College from 1952-1953. Collection contains one manuscript written by Swanson titled “Bibliography of American Immigration Fiction and Suggestions for a Unit of Study Based upon American Immigration Fiction,” written in May 1953 for Dr. O. Fritiof Ander’s course “Teaching of Social Studies.”
