Campus Update: The Celebration of Learning is May 10!

Celebration of Learning 2023

This year's Celebration of Learning, which showcases work by Augustana students, faculty and staff, is Wednesday, May 10.

Poster presentations will be held in the GΓ€vle room, Gerber Center, across two sessions:
β€’  9-10 a.m.
β€’  1-2:15 p.m.

Oral presentations are offered in various campus locations across four sessions:
β€’ 10-11:15 a.m.
β€’ 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m.
β€’ 1-2:15 p.m.
β€’ 2:30-3:45 p.m.

Featured presenters include Dr. Carolyn Yaschur and Sarah Walton '23 on their teaching experience in Nepal; alumni Angie Mitchum '08 Sharp and Jordan Delp '09 on finding careers to match their passions; and first-year students Madi Greenwood, Graham Hunt, Emmet Johnson and Hannah McKoon on their research experiences in the Mojave Desert and Ecuador.

🌐 Guest speakers in STEM

  • Dr. Tamlin Pavelsky will virtually present on his work for the NASA surface water and ocean topography satellite. Tomorrow, 9 a.m., Google Meet.

  • Dr. Karen G. Andeen will present on cosmic rays, how to detect them and what they can tell us about our universe. Monday, 4:30 p.m., Hanson 128.

  • Dr. Tim Tharp will present on climate change and his personal journey in advocating for a specific emissions reduction project at Marquette College. Monday, 7:30 p.m., Hanson 128.

  • Senior Tran Bui is seeking participants for an interactive art project titled "What hit you the hardest this year?" To participate, bring your written comments to Wallenberg Hall by May 14.

  • Due to construction, the east entrances of Bergendoff Hall will be closed until further notice. Please enter through the 7th Ave. or west entrances.

🎨 The art exhibit for Vic Zaragoza, a senior majoring in art education, opens with a free reception this Friday, 3:30-4:30 p.m., at New Art Studios.

🎸 The annual Sloughfest music festival is this Saturday at 5 p.m. Performers include Muxia, Sara Zee and 99 Neighbors. (Want a sneak peek? Come to Sloughfest bingo tomorrow!)

🎼 The Augustana Oratorio Society will perform "Requiem, Op. 9" and other choral works on Sunday, 3 p.m., in Centennial Hall.

πŸ‘‹ Her Campus welcomes Melissa Pepper '09, Russell's chief strategy officer and founder of Lead(h)er, to campus for a presentation on Monday, 5 p.m., in the Olin auditorium.

πŸ—£οΈ Poet and spoken word artist Aubrey Barnes will perform next Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Brew.
