Tutoring TEST

The Academic Resource Collective provides free appointment and drop-in tutoring with trained peers to help you succeed in your courses.

Sessions will be hosted in-person or online. You can make an individual appointment through Starfish or check out our drop-in schedule at the bottom of the page. Please see our step-by-step instructions for how to make or cancel a tutoring appointment.

STEM/Q Center hours

Tutoring is held in the STEM/Q Center (Hanson 202) during the following hours weeks 2-14:

  • Sunday: 5-9 p.m.*
  • Monday: 9 a.m.-9 p.m.**
  • Tuesday: 9 a.m.-9 p.m.*
  • Wednesday: 9 a.m.-9 p.m.**
  • Thursday: 9 a.m.-9 p.m.*
  • Friday: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Saturday: Closed

*Peer drop-in tutoring for STEM courses (biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, engineering and computer science) is available Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, 7-9 p.m.

**Peer drop-in tutoring for social science courses (accounting, business, economics, psychology, and sociology and anthropology) is available Monday and Wednesday, 7-9 p.m.

Notes:

  • During week 1 and finals week, the hours are Monday-Thursday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • The STEM/Q Center is closed during breaks, holidays, the eve of a holiday or break, and weekends adjoining holidays or breaks, though some exceptions may be made.
  • Drop-in facilitated study groups/supplemental instruction workshops occur at select times during the week for several courses: CHEM 131/132, MATH 090/140/160/220/260/320, PHYS 151, PSYC 240.
  • Faculty drop-in tutoring for biology, chemistry and physics occurs during select times during the week and may occur outside of general STEM/Q hours.

Facilitated study groups

These study groups are facilitated by experienced, trained peer tutors who have successfully completed the course. They provide a review of concepts and skills, as well as supplemental materials (created or approved by course instructors). Designed to help students further develop their understanding and application of these concepts and skills to scenarios/problems, these groups are free and available to all students registered in the course.

You do not need to register in advance, just show up, sign in and sign out. We highly recommend that you join us early and often, and that you participate fully in each session.

Peer drop-in tutoring

At drop-in sessions, you can come and go as you like. Several tutors are available, so you often can get individual attention when you need it, or just work with others knowing that tutors are nearby to answer questions. You can also book an individual appointment with a subject tutor through Starfish.

All tutoring will be held weeks 2-14 during the fall and spring semesters. Sessions will not be held during breaks.
