Why Augustana?

Growing up in a big Augie family, I've always been aware of the impressive education and opportunities offered at Augustana. Attending Augustana always seemed like a natural path to explore, but what sealed the deal for me was the excellent CSD program that allows students to engage in meaningful clinical experiences.

Choosing Augustana and making the most of my time here has set me up for success as I pursue my passion in speech-language pathology.

Are you where you thought you'd be when you first came to campus?

While I have always known that I wanted to pursue speech-language pathology since arriving on campus, I didn't know where this passion would lead me while in undergrad. The idea of research used to be very daunting to me, but when the opportunity to get involved on a research team opened up, I gave it a chance despite feeling unsure of my abilities. That decision reinforced my love for CSD and redefined what lifelong learning means to me.

Who helped you get to where you are now?

I would not be where I am now without the constant support of my parents. They always have my back and have worked tirelessly to provide for me and my siblings. I am eternally grateful for the sacrifices they have made for me throughout the years.

Dr. Perreau has been a mentor to me for over a year now. Thanks to her, I have hands-on experience in a research lab where I have strengthened both my analytical and personal skills while working directly with participants and presenting our work at conferences. Dr. Perreau has challenged me to grow in many meaningful ways, and she is a big inspiration to me.

My roommates, my CSD cohort and my Chi Alpha Pi siblings have shaped my experience at Augustana in countless positive ways. I am so grateful for each and every one of these individuals and the impact they have had on my life.

Peak experience?

How can I choose just one? Getting involved in research, joining a sorority, leaning into my faith in the Lord and volunteering at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in Washington, D.C., were all key experiences.

What surprised you?

I have been surprised by the vast amount of opportunities offered at Augustana. There are so many different ways to get involved on campus, and many of those opportunities seek to benefit the Quad-Cities community. Augustana is dedicated to both its students and its community members.

How did you use your Augie Choice?

I used my Augie Choice to study abroad in Florence, Italy! After taking a Renaissance art history class with Dr. Morse my junior year, I knew I had to experience Italian culture, art and cuisine. Being able to apply my knowledge of Italian art history throughout the trip was truly life-changing.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss Slough walks with my friends in the fall and passing by friendly faces on my way to class. I will miss each professor who has brought passion, understanding and kindness to the classroom. I will miss hammocking on campus in the spring and laughing with my roommates in our living room after a long day.

Advice for the Class of 2030?

Lean into it. College doesn't last forever, so be bold and take advantage of every opportunity that gets presented to you. Even when you feel unqualified. Even when you are scared. Believe in your capabilities and trust the process.

"Chloe is an amazing student, and I have been beyond fortunate to be her mentor and advisor! She strives to do her best in all things, including as a student in my research lab. I have loved seeing Chloe grow as a student, taking on new challenges and gaining confidence along the way! Chloe — you will be remembered as a star and leader in our program!"
