Why Augustana?
Even before stepping foot on campus, I knew Augie was the right choice for me. I was captivated by promises of small class sizes, intimate connections with faculty and a tight-knit community. Every day of my time here has never failed to fulfill that promise. From my very beginning moments here to my last, I have felt that I belong as an invaluable member of our Augie community.
Are you where you thought you'd be when you first came to campus?
Augustana has afforded me numerous transformative opportunities, from traveling overseas to working closely with esteemed faculty. When I started, I had no idea how involved I could get. I couldn't have imagined all of the amazing connections I would make. Not only have I grown in my professional development, but I've also grown in my character. I am so grateful for the person I've become.
Who helped you get to where you are now?
I would not be where I am today without my parents. My mom and dad have been a constant support in my life, always reminding me of their unconditional love whenever times get tough. With every challenge I've faced, they have been my biggest cheerleaders, urging me to never give up. For everything I have achieved, I have them to thank.
I also wouldn't be here if it weren't for supportive faculty mentors like my advisors Dr. Rupa Gordon and Dr. Scott Gehler, who have patiently guided my growth and stood with me as I underwent the life lessons necessary for my development.
I additionally want to thank all of my mentors in the psychology and neuroscience department. I admire and respect every single one of them so much, and know that for whatever I need they are right by my side.
Finally, I would like to thank my Reading/Writing Center faculty tutors for inviting me to be a part of such a special place. I am thankful every day for the loving family that I have found in my RWC community!
Peak experience?
I've had so many peak experiences in my time at Augie; it's difficult to choose just one. I've had the chance to travel overseas with the Augustana Choir. I've attended and presented at multiple academic conferences. I've engaged in unforgettable campus events, and I've gotten to connect meaningfully with various campus-centered groups and organizations. These have all been foundational in constructing my college experience. I wouldn't trade any of it for the world.
What surprised you?
From my first moments on campus, I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of international diversity Augie holds. I feel so privileged to study with a group of people with such wildly different life experiences and perspectives. Working alongside these beautiful people has taught me so much!
How did you use your Augie Choice?
I used my Augie Choice on a trip with the Augustana Choir to Germany and the Czech Republic. On this once-in-a-lifetime trip, I was able to appreciate various facets of German culture and share my gifts on the other side of the globe!
What will you miss the most?
I have made so many meaningful connections here — some that I hope will last for the rest of my life. I will miss having daily interactions with my favorite professors and laughing with my friends in my favorite places on campus.
Advice for the Class of 2029?
