Why Augustana?

I chose Augustana because I felt at home on campus. Through my high school cross country team, I met a couple of the previous coaches and Augustana runners. Through my visits to Augie, I began to feel as though I belonged as a member of the community and would be supported. After many visits to campus, I could not imagine going to a different school.

Are you where you thought you’d be when you first came to campus?

When I first came, I had no idea what I wanted to major in. I contemplated declaring many different majors from anthropology to math. It was difficult to decide when I enjoyed learning about so many different areas. I eventually decided to try a couple business courses, which led me to declare business. After taking Accounting Principles with Professor Schwartz, she convinced me to try accounting. I began my time at Augustana without a clear idea of where I was headed, and I am leaving confident in my choice and excited for the future.

I feel as though I am an entirely different person from who I was freshman year. I have grown to be a stronger and more confident version of myself through my experiences over the past four years.

Who helped you get to where you are now?

I have so many people who have helped me, and it is difficult to name just a few. My professors at Augustana have encouraged, motivated, supported and guided me throughout my four years, and there is no way to fully express my appreciation for all that they have done. I am especially grateful for the business and accounting professors who have made me feel as though I can do anything. Specifically, Professor Schwartz, who is the reason that I declared accounting, and Dr. Delaney and Mamata Marmé, who helped me plan out my time at Augie.

My parents helped me get where I am now, and they are the reason I had the opportunity to attend Augustana. Also my friends, who have been there during both the ups and downs of college.

Peak experience?

My peak experience was my internship at Cobham. I developed valuable experience working on audits, and I gained a mentor.

What surprised you?

I have learned that I can accomplish so much more than I thought I could.

How did you use Augie Choice?

I used my Augie Choice for my second internship.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss being a part of the Augustana community and the people here.

Advice for the Class of 2023?

Enjoy the small moments because they can be your most cherished memories.

"Kylie has been an inspiration to work with in her time at Augustana. She worked hard at everything she did with her time, including classes, internships, track and other campus activities. Despite her busy schedule, she never let it affect her academic performance. Kylie was always prepared for class and seemed to truly enjoy learning. Her award of Accounting Student of Distinction is well deserved, as is her acceptance of a position at RSM!"
