Are you where you thought you’d be four years ago?

Four years ago, I had only a rough idea of what I wanted my college experience to be. I knew I wanted to travel, study business and play football. I fulfilled all of these.

Your peak experience?

My peak experience at Augustana was my study abroad term in West Africa. I had some profound experiences that would have been difficult to find at any other time in my life. Being immersed in such a vastly different culture increased my global perspective and improved my attitude toward the developing world. I also made great friends that I wouldn’t have met otherwise.

What did you learn about yourself in these past four years that surprised you?

I have been surprised at how many different interests I developed while at Augustana. The liberal arts education, travel opportunities, athletics and social life here have allowed me to explore different ways of thinking and viewing the world. I have become a much more balanced and understanding person as a result.

Who helped you get to where you are now?

My family has always provided a great deal of support and motivation. Through their college experiences, my brother and sister helped me realize what I wanted out of mine. My parents worked to make sure I was getting the most out of myself. In addition to their example, I have had great friends, coaches and professors who have made college a blast while helping me grow.

Advice for this fall's incoming class (Class of 2015)?

Get involved in a few clubs or activities you really want to do and stay on top of your classes. There will always be plenty of time for fun.

"Kyle is ready to hit the ground running as he begins his financial analyst career position with Motorola upon graduation. His international experience in Africa and finance internship in Australia will shorten the transition from college to the work world, and help him to more quickly add value to the organization."
