Viking Score

Use the Viking Score worksheet to track your level of professional preparation for life after graduation.

There are suggested activities to complete each year, such as attending career and graduate school fairs and workshops, meeting with career development staff, completing internships and creating a portfolio.

At the end of each year there is a suggested minimum number of points you should have accumulated; you are encouraged to go beyond the minimum points each year.

(Note to Black Hawk College transfer students: Those Black Hawk College (BHC) students who have completed the BHC Passport to Leadership Program will receive 16 Viking Score points. Students should make an appointment with a CORE staff to discuss this transfer as well as their next steps in the Viking Score program.)

Suggested minimum number of points per year:

• By the end of your first year you should have accumulated 10 points.

• By the end of your second year you should have accumulated 30 total points.

• By the end of your third year you should have accumulated 60 total points.

• By the time of your graduation you should have accumulated 100 total points.

Handshake for jobs and internships

Augustana uses Handshake, an online tool for students to find jobs and internships, and for more than 65,000 recruiters to find students. Students and alumni get postings that are specific to their job interests, major, and preferences.

An internship is the practical application of the skills, knowledge and talents that students gain at Augustana or discover about themselves in a work or volunteer setting.

Internships at Augustana carry learning goals and objectives, plus an assessment at the conclusion of the internship. Internships may be part-time or full-time, paid or unpaid, for academic credit or non-credit.

Profair and Graduate School Fair

Twice each year, Augustana and St. Ambrose University partner for the ProFair, bringing together students and alumni with prospective employers (both local and national), for job and internship opportunities.

Augustana also hosts the I-74 Graduate and Professional Schools Fair. Students have the opportunity to learn about various graduate programs and meet with representatives from universities across the country.

Career coaches

Coaches meet with students to talk about resumes, cover letters, interviewing, networking, job fairs, graduate school, internship and job search, and more.

Career ambassadors

The Office of Career Development also employs highly trained students as career ambassadors to extend the mission of the office. Students can work with the ambassadors on starting a resume, cover letter, LinkedIn profile, or how to get started on the job/internship search.

Career ambassadors are available during the morning, afternoons, and nights for walk-in hours.

They also present programs in residence halls, as well as for clubs and organizations and represent Augustana at events and career fairs.
