Culture & Connection Week events April 17-26

Culture & Connection Week is a campus-wide celebration that brings the Augustana community together to explore, share, and celebrate culture. Through events and activities held throughout the week, students, staff, and faculty are invited into spaces of learning, reflection, and meaningful connection.

Friday, April 17

French for Gender Justice (1-2 p.m., Lindberg 204)
World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies will host an interactive workshop on gender-inclusive language in French, exploring how Francophones around the world are making the language more inclusive of all genders. All are welcome to attend, and no prior knowledge of French is required. The workshop will be facilitated by Karla Collazo and Dr. Kiki Kosnick.

International Fest (5-8 p.m., Lindberg lobby)
The Office of International Student and Scholar Services and the Global Engagement Team will host an international festival featuring culture, community, and global celebration.

Monday, April 20

Saveurs d’Afrique (5:30-7:30 p.m., Black Culture House)
The Office of Student Cultural Connection will host Saveurs d’Afrique (Flavors of Africa), where attendees can experience African cultures through food, conversation, and storytelling. The event will feature dishes, short personal stories connected to each dish, and space for attendees to connect through shared culinary traditions. A free meal will be provided. RSVP is required, and attendance is limited to 25. • RSVP

Grow Where You’re Planted (6-7 p.m., Andreen Hall, Red Room) 
NAMI on Campus will host a conversation-centered event focused on growth, identity, and belonging.

Tuesday, April 21

Global Cafe, noon-2 p.m.
(Office of International Student and Scholar Services Lobby, Gerber 402)
The Office of International Student and Scholar Services will host Global Cafe, a free gathering where attendees can enjoy global drinks and snacks while connecting with others as part of Culture & Connection Week.

Roots and Crown (5-6:30 p.m., Celebrity’s Beauty Supply)
The Office of Student Cultural Connection and Celebrity Beauty Supply will host a hair care and styling event where students will visit a local beauty supply store to learn about entrepreneurship and hair care from the owners, explore products, and enjoy giveaways. Transportation will be provided. RSVP is required, and attendance is limited to 25-30. • RSVP

Wednesday, April 22

Committing to College: Many Stories, One Augustana, 1-3 p.m.
(Admissions Lobby, Seminary Hall)
The Office of Admissions will host an event highlighting the many journeys and stories that bring students to Augustana.

Thursday, April 23

Sharing Your Story to Employers, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
(CORE Commons, Olin first floor)
CORE will host a day of activities designed to help students connect their personal experiences to professional storytelling. The event will include LinkedIn headshots, opportunities to reflect on what students wish employers knew about them, and information about study-away opportunities.

Speed Faithing (4-5 p.m., The Brew)
Campus Ministries will host an opportunity to engage in conversation and connection around faith and lived experiences.

Cultivating Culture, 5-7 p.m. 
(Casa Latina, Black Culture House, Asian Pacific Islander Desi American House)
The Office of Student Cultural Connection, Augie Acres, and Sierra Club will host a collaborative event celebrating Earth Week and Culture & Connection Week at the culture houses. Attendees can help plant flowers, enjoy snacks and drinks, and participate in activities such as rock painting and a bonfire.

Friday, April 24

Folklore Around the Globe (7:30-9:30 p.m., The Brew Patio)
The Office of International Student and Scholar Services will host an evening of global folklore at The Brew Patio, where attendees can gather by the bonfire to share stories and enjoy s’mores, chai, samosas, chutney, and pakora.

Saturday, April 25

Quinceañera (6:30-10 p.m., Gerber Center, Gävle rooms)
Latinx Unidos will host a Quinceañera in the Gävle Rooms on Saturday, April 25. The event begins at 6:30 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. Semi-formal attire is required, food will be provided, and RSVP is required. • RSVP

Sunday, April 26

Take Back the Night (7-8 p.m., Denkmann Hall)
The Office of Sexual Assault Prevention & Education will host Take Back the Night, an event inviting attendees to take a stand against sexual violence and march with their peers. The evening will create space for solidarity, awareness, and collective action.
