The Journey to Selma: Reliving the Past to Shape the Future

The Journey to Selma is a six-day program to relive iconic moments from the Civil Rights era. Students traveled to Memphis, Birmingham, Montgomery and Selma, visiting landmarks such as the Lorraine Motel, 16th Street Baptist Church, Dr. King’s Church and Parsonage, and the Edmund Pettus Bridge. It was an eye-opening experience as students learned how slavery and the Civil Rights Movement played a huge role in shaping American history. In this session, students will share the impact of this experience and how it influences them to advocate for change at Augustana and beyond.
