In case you haven't noticed, the capacity counter in the Dining Center has gone from 200 up to 300.
This is a sign of progress. We reduced dining capacity in November when COVID numbers were higher. But now numbers are trending well in the community. Restore Illinois is back to Phase 4 in Rock Island County, and our on-campus numbers are lower than in November.
Grab & Go service in the Gävle Room will be discontinued after Friday. It will still be available at The Brew and Gerber Center.

• Double masking isn't required at this time, but we do recommend it. Dr. Rebecca Heick, assistant professor of public health, advises wearing a surgical mask closest to your face and a cloth mask over that. (See tips from the CDC.)

Freistat Center announces new fellowships
Augustana’s Freistat Center has announced a new fellowship program for research and studies conducted during summer 2021 through summer 2022, including J-term.
This fellowship is open to faculty-student research teams as a one-time response to restrictions imposed by the pandemic. The application deadline is April 2.
The fellowships will offer support of up to $5,000 for teams of two, and $7,000 for teams of three.

• Got essays? Two current contests are calling for them: the Ethics Essay Contest and the Audre Lorde Writing Prize. Both have a deadline of March 12 and both offer a small monetary award, as well as recognition.
• A Catholic Ash Wednesday service will begin at noon today in Ascension Chapel. Also, Chaplain Melinda Pupillo will offer Ash Wednesday services at 8 and 8:30 tonight in Ascension Chapel. All are welcome to either service.
• Drop-in subject tutoring for this semester has begun, and will be offered through May.
• The bookstore will have a one-day book buyback from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. tomorrow. Sell your books for cash.
• Reminder: Departmental open houses for students who are thinking about declaring a major are underway.
• The deadline to add or drop a class for spring semester is 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Tonight: Archaeology and Social Change on the Plains, 7:30 p.m. Learn how social changes in the 1300-1400s led to the appearance of modern Native American nations.
'Speaking in Tongues' encore Friday
The psychological thriller "Speaking in Tongues" has been rescheduled for this Friday, Feb 19. (The streaming service was unavailable on the original date of Feb. 12.)
If you bought tickets for Feb. 12, your code will still work. Tickets are available for $8.
Directed by senior James Wheeler, the show was performed last month at the Brunner Theatre Center. Students worked with Fresh Films do the filming and editing for the streaming version.
Dr. Dan Lee's campus beauty photo was accepted for a juried exhibition at the Bereskin Gallery in Bettendorf through Feb. 25. He says: "I was about to take a photo of a student sitting on a bench when another student, wearing a white parka, sat down near the student on the bench. It was a serendipitous coincidence." Have trouble spotting the second student? Look for the camera she is holding.
