Why did you choose Augustana?

I chose Augustana because of its excellent biology program and small class sizes.

Are you where you thought you'd be four years ago?

Not at all. Originally I wanted to be a microbiologist and hoped to go to the University of Illinois-Chicago. As I took more classes here, I realized my true passion was mathematics.

Who helped you get to where you are now?

I would say my biggest influence in college was Dr. Clauss. After high school, I was burned out on math, but decided to give it another chance. I took Calculus II with him and never stopped taking math classes since. He made math compelling and made me hungry to learn more.

A peak experience?

Joining and being apart of APO. It allowed me serve my community and meet my best friend.

What did you learn about yourself in these past four years that surprised you?

That I am a GIANT math nerd.

How did you use your Augie Choice?

I used Augie Choice to help me participate in the Iowa Summer Institute in Biostatistics.

What will you miss the most?

The professors...many have taught me something I didn’t know about myself. Shout-out to Clauss, Lady McDowell and Dr. Larson.

Advice for the Class of 2019?

Don't be afraid of math. It may seem daunting at first, but after calculus it’s more rewarding than rage-inducing.

“It’s been a great pleasure watching Cody grow intellectually over the years. A man of insatiable intellectual curiosity, he has always pushed the boundaries of his own understanding, and has always kept me on my toes! I know he’ll continue to take advantage of every opportunity that comes his way. I expect great things from Cody as he goes on to pursue his graduate studies.”
