More Than I Imagined Seniors reflect on accomplishments and look ahead

Tim Dennis

Graduation year: 2011

Major: Business administration

Minor: Accounting

Activities: football, wrestling (NCAA Division III Scholar All-American Award), Phi Omega Phi

Post-grad plans: I am interning for Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, and it has solidified my love for finance. I hope to work in financial services and become a Certified Financial Planner, and in the future, have my own firm.

Are you where you thought you’d be four years ago?

Not at all. Augustana helped me find my path in life through its great business program and internship opportunities. I came here with no idea what I wanted to do, and I’m leaving with a specific career goal that I truly have a passion for.

Your peak experience?

My internship at Merrill Lynch. It has been such a great experience to be able to work in the field I want for a career while still attending school.

What did you learn about yourself in these past four years that surprised you?

I learned that hard work and dedication pay off in the long run. In athletics and academics, I have lived by this principle, and it has given me rewarding experiences in both.

Besides your family, who helped you get to where you are now?

The numerous professors and coaches I have gotten to know over my four years here. Without their support and ‘The sky is the limit’ type attitudes, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Advice for this fall's incoming class (Class of 2015)?

Keep an open mind and make use of all the resources and connections that Augustana has to offer. If you can do that, then you will find your calling in life.

"Tim is a great example of an Augie student-athlete...great grades, helped our team to our first winning record in seven years, and he has an internship with Merrill Lynch. He was recently named to the 2011 Scholar All-American team by the NCAA Division III Wrestling Coaches Association."
