Are you where you thought you’d be four years ago?

I’ve far surpassed where I thought I would be at the beginning of my college experience. I’ve completed two academic internships, accepted a job with one of the ‘Big Four’ accounting firms, been involved on campus, and created a strong circle of friends and mentors at Augustana. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

Who helped you get to where you are now?

My parents and sister have no doubt helped me reach my full potential, always full of encouragement and advice. The accounting department at Augustana has been beyond helpful and supportive throughout my four years. Dr. John Delaney has been my biggest mentor, always rooting for me and providing great networking opportunities. And of course, my friends have played a large role in helping me get where I am today.

A peak experience while you were here?

One of my peak experiences was choosing to participate in Greek life on campus. The relationships I’ve built with the women of my sorority, as well as with other Greek groups on campus, have made my college experience so fulfilling. I have found lifelong friends, as well as a strong support system.

What did you learn about yourself in these past four years that surprised you?

I’ve learned that I’m capable of anything I put my mind to. If you surround yourself with positive people and take advantage of the opportunities presented to you, the possibilities are endless. I’ve learned that hard work and networking can make a huge difference!

Advice for this fall’s incoming class (Class of 2015)?

Take advantage of the opportunities and resources available at Augustana. The faculty and staff are here to help you succeed! Also, get involved on campus. Step out of your comfort zone and get to know people. It’s important to work hard and commit yourself to schoolwork, but make sure to also take the time to have fun and do the things you love.

“When I first met Courtney, she was this quiet and unassuming student sitting in the back of class. As I got to know Courtney, her personality began to come out, and she seemed to gain confidence in her abilities as an accountant. Subsequently, her work at both CPA firms she interned with was terrific—her supervisors could not have been more pleased. I see big things for Courtney in the future; she is a determined young lady and an outstanding example of someone that got the most out of her experience at Augustana.”
