Are you where you thought you’d be four years ago?

In a way, yes. I have, however, accomplished more than I ever thought possible in terms of being involved in extracurricular activities, landing competitive internships and pursuing a double major.

Your peak experience?

My peak experience has to be the Senior Studio Art Student Exhibition that will be featured in Augustana’s Art Museum in Centennial Hall. I have worked for an entire year on the exhibition. I have been involved in every step of the process, including publicity, framing, pricing, installation, the reception and public presentation, and creation of all the work into one cohesive body. I have not only learned a great deal, but have also further developed my passion for art. I am very excited for the exhibition opening on Tuesday, May 10!

What did you learn about yourself in these past four years that surprised you?

How much I have changed in four years! I feel like I am a very different person than the one who stepped into the College Center four years ago.

Who helped you get to where you are now?

Besides my family, my professors challenged me to work my hardest, learn as much as I can and add to my skill set. As my supervisor in the business office, Karen Petersen has helped me to utilize my artistic side and apply it to the business world. She has challenged me through projects, offered advice and encouragement, and has given me the confidence I need to take the next step in my career. Through art, professors like Megan Quinn and Peter Xiao have shown true passion in a career. They have encouraged me to be creative, take risks, be passionate and have fun while doing it. My friends at Augustana have supported me throughout my four years and made my college experience memorable.

Advice for this fall's incoming class?

Work hard and learn as much as you can at Augustana. Also, don’t forget to have fun! There is no other time in your life that you can wake up at noon every day, live with your best friends and go to a party on a weeknight. Enjoy it!

"Ann has accomplished so much during her four years at Augustana! She has been my student worker since the end of her first year, and I really cannot put into words the value that she has added to our department. She has also contributed her talents to the Child Abuse Council in Rock Island as the marketing and community relations intern, as an art therapy intern with Intouch Adult Day Services, and as the communications director for Mortar Board. Professionally, Ann has worked at John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc. in Elgin, Ill., as a marketing intern, again combining her art and business expertise."
