Revere F. Weidner

Professor of Dogmatics, Exegesis, and Hebrew, 1882-1894

(This series of Notable Faculty profiles was written in celebration Augustana's sesquicentennial in 2009.)

Revere F. Weidner was a graduate of Muhlenberg College and the Philadelphia Seminary. He was a former pastor, and had taught at Muhlenberg. Weidner was a noted Hebrew scholar and theologian.

In 1882, Augustana College and Theological Seminary offered Weidner a position teaching dogmatics, exegesis, and Hebrew. He was a constant member of the faculty, and was the first English professor in any German or Scandinavian western theological seminary.

From 1885 until 1888, he served at the Seminary librarian, and he was the secretary of the theological faculty from 1884 until 1892. He resigned from his position in the seminary in June 1891, but agreed to come from Chicago every week to teach a half schedule. After Weidner left the school, his house became the president's house.
