Augustana helps build searchable digital archive of Swedish-American newspapers

Augustana students — and anyone who is interested — can now explore more than a million pages of Swedish-American newspapers through a groundbreaking digital archive. This free resource includes 348 publications whose pages were digitized thanks to the efforts of partners in the two countries, including Augustana's Swenson Swedish American Research Center.

Augustana history students dig into the past to support local library's future

When the Rock Island Public Library needed historical background for a master plan and future capital campaign for its downtown library, Augustana’s History 300 students answered the call. Their research uncovered important stories about the 1903 library, while revealing the challenges and rewards of piecing together a library’s history.

How does one research 160 years of bicycling?

Historian and librarian Chris Sweet ’01 knows how to make an entrance. In April, he returned to campus with a penny-farthing, a high-wheeled bicycle from the 1870-1880s.
