When he was attorney in Milwaukee, Steve successfully argued a case, Malek v. Commissioner of the IRS, that’s still studied by law and accounting students.
In addition to being a lawyer, a C.P.A. and a college president, Steve’s also been a freelance photographer. His work has appeared in such diverse publications as Travel, The Chicago Tribune and Pizza Today(!).
Although a successful debater at the University of Iowa, there was one team Steve could never beat: Augustana, which during Steve’s senior year featured Rick Godfrey, now an Augustana trustee (that year Godfrey and his partner, Robert Feldhake, finished third in the nation behind Kansas and Georgetown).
Jane and Steve collect Christmas ornaments, and every one of them has a story (that’s why they need a 15-foot tree!).
All his time in wilderness settings has inspired both photography and poetry, which have been shared on campus and in the community.
