Assessment at Augustana

There is a wealth of information about course and program assessment, including Student Learning Objectives (SLOs) at Augustana at Assessment at Institutional Research.

All instructors should utilize the IDEA Center Course Feedback Process in each class section. Because this process is designed to assess learning as well as provide feedback on teaching effectiveness, it requires  two forms. The faculty form completed at the beginning of the course. The students’ form completed during the last two weeks of classes. The information obtained from this data is important for two reasons. First, improving one’s teaching is a  continuous process in a perpetually shifting environment. The reports from your IDEA data—supplemented by your own mid-term assessments and participation in teaching circles or other peer coaching—will help you identify ways to improve your teaching and best meet your students’ learning needs. Second, you will have to submit all of your IDEA Center information to the Faculty Review Committee for each pre-tenure review as well as at the tenure hearing. These data also may be used by your department chair in your annual review. Please consult with your department chair regarding administration procedures for this evaluation. For any questions or assistance in maximizing your IDEA course feedback process, choosing your course objectives and/or interpreting your IDEA results, contact Greg Domski in Academic Affairs or Erin Kempker in CELTS.
