Highlights from Augustana's music ensemble spring tours

This spring, the Augustana Symphonic Band traveled to Japan, performing concerts in Tokyo, Nagoya and Sagamihara. Students visited ancient shrines, attended samurai sword and taiko drum workshops, visited Kyoto and performed "Furosato" by Teiichi Kano with the Hikarigaoka Girls High School Band and Choir at the Toyota City Concert Hall in Toyota City, Japan.

Fresh off a tour of Germany and the Czech Republic, the Augustana Choir toured the Midwest, visiting Rockford, Naperville and Arlington Heights in Illinois; Waukesha and Madison in Wisconsin; and Mounds View, Minn.

The Jenny Lind Vocal Ensemble also toured the Midwest, visiting Iowa City and Fort Madison in Iowa, and Kirkwood, Mo.

Augustana's tradition of ensemble tours dates back to the Augustana Silver Cornet Band, which toured Illinois and Iowa in 1882. Since then, Augustana's three touring ensembles — the Augustana Choir, Augustana Symphonic Band and Jenny Lind Vocal Ensemble — have been on the road, traveling as far as England, France, Japan, Scotland, Spain and Sweden.

Through these tours, Augustana students get to experience different cultures and share their love of music with the world.
