Classes of 2020, 2021 to celebrate graduation May 23

Augustana College will hold graduation for the classes of 2020 and 2021 next spring.

The college had planned to hold an in-person ceremony this October, but President Steve Bahls said this week it is likely that the State of Illinois prohibition on gatherings of more than 50 people in any one place will still be in effect.

The college will host commencement for both the Classes of 2020 and 2021 on the same day: Sunday, May 23, 2021.

"As national conversations continue about the uncertain trajectory of the coronavirus pandemic, I believe this is the only prudent answer at this time," he said. "Your health and safety and that of your families and loved ones are priorities."

Augustana hosted an online ceremony May 23.

"Although we were able to honor our graduates in a virtual ceremony on May 23, we look forward to providing you with the festive, traditional celebration you deserve," Bahls wrote in a message to the Class of 2020 this week.

"I hope that most of you can make it back to the Quad Cities to join in this celebration."
