International Street Fest show and dinner
The annual International Street Fest will include a culture show and international dinner. All events are free except dinner.
A variety of cuisine from around the world will be served in the Gerber Center Dining Hall starting at 5 p.m. The all-you-care-to-eat dinner is $11.45 for adults, $8.50 for faculty and staff, and $6 for children. Augustana students may use meal swipes or Viking Bucks. Cash, check and credit cards are accepted.
The menu will represent Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe and the U.S.
The fashion and culture show will begin at 6 p.m. in the Gävle rooms. This year's theme is #GETaway. Audiences will "take-off" to various countries around the world. There will be a fashion show of traditional clothing from around the world and performances. Hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be served, and there will be a raffle from 6-8 p.m.
The Office of International Student Life and the Global Engagement Team will host the festival.
"Extraordinist" Craig Karges
"Extraordinist" Craig Karges combines the art of magic with the science of psychology and the power of intuition to create the impression that nothing is impossible.
He is an award-winning entertainer, a nationally recognized speaker and an author who has made more than 5,000 appearances in 22 countries and in all 50 states.
Tables float, minds are read, metal bends and the imagination is challenged.
Zohra Sarwari presents "Are Muslim Women Oppressed?"
Sarwari is the author of 14 books and three homeschooling curriculums, as well as an international speaker, entrepreneur, publisher and mother to three children. She has a bachelor's degree in psychology, an MBA and she currently is pursuing bachelor's degree in Islamic studies.
She spends her time homeschooling her children, lecturing, coaching and working on her curriculums. She has been a guest on various news programs, including those of CBS and FOX News. She has also been interviewed for many magazines, newspapers, radio programs and online publications.
As an orthodox Muslim, Sarwari has faced many challenges. Her passion is to educate others about diversity using humor and personal experiences that leave her audiences transformed from the moment they leave the room. Her speeches promote dialogue and foster tolerance towards people of all races, religions and backgrounds.
Sarwari’s visit is sponsored by Augustana’s Office of Campus Ministries, Office of Student Life and Leadership and Department of Women’s and Gender Studies.
Sarwari also will present "No, I am Not a Terrorist" on Wednesday, April 19 at 7 p.m. in Wallenberg Hall.
Student Showcase Part 2
Live On Campus will be hosting a Student Showcase Part 2, featuring Talent Show champion Izzy Bartshcer.
A raffle will be held.
Bingo: May the Fourth Be With You
The OSL will be hosting a Star Wars-themed Bingo night.
Doors open at 8:30 p.m. for a special movie trailer party hosted by the 2018-19 SLPB movie committee. 10 rounds of bingo will be played, each ending with cash prizes.
Multicultural Programming Board: Committee Fair
MPB (Multicultural Programming Board) will be hosting a committee fair from 5-6 p.m. Students interested in helping plan events such as Chicago Excursions, Culture Fest, and Last Comic Standing are encouraged to stop by, meet the leaders of the Multicultural Programming Board, and learn about our committees which include: Special Events, Lectures & Leadership, Late Night, Campus Awareness & Outreach, and Comedy Club.
Established in 1997, MPB works to engage the campus in culturally diverse experiences by hosting a variety of social and educational events. MPB regularly sponsors lectures, films, dances, parties and other activities for the entire campus.
Student Life Programming Board Committee Fair
The Student Life Programming Board will be hosting a Committee fair for anyone interested in getting involved in planning next year's events. In the past, the Board has planned events such as Black Light Dodgeball, Bert "The Machine" Kreischer, and Bingo.
Wednesday Night Live starring Chris Redd
The Multicultural Programming Board will host "Wednesday Night Live" featuring stand-up comedian Chris Redd. Redd is currently a cast member of SNL. He is known for his role as Hunter the Hungry in the film "Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping"and has appeared on the Netflix series "Disjointed."
