Tyler Katz (they/them) is the Assistant Director in the Office of Student Cultural Connection and the LGBTQ+ Coordinator at Augustana College.

Originally hailing from the suburbs of Chicago, they actively engaged in LGBTQ+ life at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, where they received a B.M. and B.S. double-degree in Music Theory & Composition and Applied Computational Physics with minors and principals in math, political science, and violin performance. They then continued their LGBTQ+ involvement in graduate school at the University of Iowa, where they received their M.A. in music. In addition to LGBTQ+ life, they also were involved in Jewish life.

After graduation, they worked in campus and community engagement at colleges in Florida before moving to Bethlehem, PA, where they were the Engagement and Programming Associate at Lehigh University’s Office of Jewish Student Life, part of their Office of Inclusive Excellence and Belonging. In this role, they served in leadership roles in Lehigh University’s Faculty and Staff Pride Network and Hillel International’s LGBTQ+ ERG. After moving back to Illinois, they were the Program Coordinator for Public Engagement at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s School of Music, where they served on the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access committee.

Tyler continues to enjoy music, composing and performing violin in their free time. They also enjoy traveling, activism, LGBTQ+ and Jewish events, bicycle riding, walking, and bird-watching. They are very excited to join the Augustana community!
