March 13: Information from the provost

To our students,

This morning you received word from President Bahls that Augustana will begin its spring break a week earlier than originally scheduled. It’s understandable that this news may have left you with a lot of questions, including about what this means for your courses.

Here are the things you need to know about your courses in the weeks ahead:

1. No classes will meet during the two weeks of spring break (March 14-29), and no assignments will be due during  these two weeks. At this time, we plan to return to classes on campus as usual on March 30th. Semester-length courses will be shortened from 14 weeks to 13; the date for commencement is not changing.

2. Your professors will be reaching out to you soon. They will communicate how your courses will be modified for the shortened semester.  You must regularly check your email and respond quickly. 

3. If you are leaving campus, take  anything you need to work on your classes with you. That includes  books, notebooks, lab manuals, musical instruments, computers, etc just in case we’re unable to return to classes on campus as usual on March 30.

This message focused on your courses, and we’re sure you have questions about other aspects of campus life. Continue to watch your email for important messages from other offices. 

A liberal arts education calls us to think clearly and critically, seek to understand multiple perspectives, care passionately for our world, and lead in difficult times. This situation provides an unexpected opportunity for us to demonstrate the strengths of our liberal arts education together.
