Campus update for May 12, 2021

important covid info

College leaders will await additional public health guidance, expected in early summer, before deciding whether or not to require COVID-19 vaccination.

President Steve Bahls and Dean of Students Dr. Wes Brooks held a campus briefing today.

Other key points:

• Unvaccinated students will not be able to participate in all activities. High-risk activities, such as participation in music ensembles, may require students to be vaccinated.

• Augustana's surveillance testing last week uncovered no positive cases, and there are no reports from people who have tested positive outside the college’s program. It is likely that unvaccinated students will be required to have weekly surveillance testing at their expense next year.

• IMPORTANT: The campus community is encouraged to complete the Vaccine Tracking survey. So far, 773 students have responded and 323 employees. Of those, 93% of students were fully or partially vaccinated, and 95% of employees.

The home stretch

Shanela Ranaraja presents her Senior Inquiry project on gender stereotypes in Sri Lankan ESL textbooks as Dr. Adam Kaul and Tracy Pham listen in the Evald Great Hall Tuesday. We wrote about Shanela way back in 2017, when she said Augie was already feeling like a second home.
