Campus update: Closer to the stars

Augustana students can study the night sky like never before with new access to an advanced research-quality optical telescope in the Arizona desert.

A consortium now manages the Robert L. Mutel Telescope that includes Augustana's Dr. William Peterson.

The timing couldn’t be better. Augustana faculty have developed a proposal for a new minor in astronomy in light of increased interest from prospective students. (more)

 

 


New film major/minor announced

Augustana announced a new major and minor in film on Wednesday. Provost Wendy Hilton-Morrow and faculty spoke to reporters at the Brunner Theatre Center. Students can start the program in the fall of 2023.


A distinguished speaker for King Day

Augustana will celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a virtual keynote by Dr. Bernard Lafayette Jr. β€” one of the original Freedom Riders β€” on Jan. 16.

He will speak on the theme of "Nonviolence in a Time of Civil Unrest: Yesterday and Today." (more)

🌍 The Geology and Geography clubs invite all to hear Dr. Norm Moline, professor emeritus of geography, talk about his trip to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. He'll speak at 4:30 p.m. today in the John Deere Lecture Hall or via Zoom.

🎡 Sloughfest is looking for people to plan the annual event that occurs at the end of spring semester.
