Dianna Shandy

Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs

Dianna Shandy is provost and vice president of academic affairs at Augustana College. In this role, she serves as the Chief Academic Officer for the college and oversees the faculty and academic program. Her direct reports include the associate vice president of academic affairs/associate dean of student success and persistence; the associate dean of academic strategic priorities; the divisional deans; the assistant vice president for CORE (Career, Opportunity, Research, Exploration) and Community Engaged Learning; directors of the Tredway Library, Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center, Presidential Center for Faith and Learning, and Institutional Research; the Registrar; and academic affairs administrative staff.

Dr. Shandy assumed the role of provost and vice president of academic affairs at Augustana in July 2023. Previously, she served as inaugural interim dean of the faculty, associate provost for strategic initiatives, associate dean of the Kofi Annan Institute for Global Citizenship and professor of anthropology at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. In 2019-20, Shandy was an American Council on Education Fellow at Elon University in NC. She serves on the Finance Committee for the American Anthropological Association.

She holds the rank of professor of anthropology. Her work spans U.S. and international settings, with research and teaching interests in migration and refugees; humanitarianism; gender and work; African and African Diaspora Studies; and research methods.
