UPDATED: Open swim hours for fall semester

Open swim hours for the fall semester are Monday through Thursday, 9-11 a.m.

Safety guidelines

1. Swimming ability

The Augustana pool is not a "learn to swim" facility and should only be used by individuals who are able to swim independently and safely in deep water. The minimum depth of the pool is 7 ft, meaning you will not be able to stand and touch the bottom in any section of the pool. Please know your abilities and do not enter the water if you are not comfortable or capable of swimming in deep water.

2. Lifeguard coverage

There are lifeguards on duty during all open swim hours. If you ever notice that there is no lifeguard present, do not enter the pool. Please reach out to amyfeltz@augustana.edu so the issue can be resolved. Use of the pool during rentals and open swim hours is not permitted without a lifeguard on duty.

3. Swim attire

Please wear proper swimwear in the pool. If lifeguards or aquatics staff determine that your attire is not appropriate or safe for pool use, you may be asked to change or leave the pool area. Proper swimwear can be defined as:

• Clean
• Designed specifically for in-water use
• Non-restrictive in regard to necessary body movements
• Made from lightweight materials designed for swimming

Acceptable items include swimsuits, swim shorts/briefs/jammers, wetsuits, religious/modesty swimwear, spandex/athletic shorts, and sports bras. Prohibited attire includes jeans, street clothes, underwear, and shoes. If you have specific questions about any clothing items, please reach out to Amy Feltz.

4. Diving boards

The diving boards are closed during open swim hours, unless you are part of the Swimming and Diving Team and have received clearance from aquatics staff to use the boards.

5. Staff authority and safety rules

For the safety of all patrons, the Pool Manager and lifeguards have final authority regarding pool safety and facility rules while the pool is in use. This includes determining whether an individual may safely enter or remain in the pool and participate in aquatic activities.  

The Pool Manager and lifeguards are responsible for enforcing all pool and facility safety rules. Patrons are expected to follow all staff instructions, posted rules, and safety requirements at all times.

Staff may require a patron to stop an unsafe activity, leave the pool area, or leave the facility completely when necessary to maintain a safe environment. Failure to follow staff instructions or facility rules may result in immediate removal from the pool or facility.
