Oct. 26 concert to reflect on anniversary of armistice

The Augustana Choir and Augustana Choral Artists will mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I with themes of war and peace at their fall concert Oct. 26.

The free concert will be at 7:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 1230 5th Ave., Moline, Ill.  A post-concert reception will offer hot chocolate, cider, coffee and cookies.

“The concert comes just a few weeks before this important anniversary, with Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday both falling on November 11, so the timing of the performance is of significance,” said Dr. Jon Hurty, conductor of both groups

The concert will include classical choral music, popular choral music and vocal jazz. “It’s really a great variety of different styles in choral music,” said Dr. Hurty.

The Augustana Choir is a select 60-voice ensemble of students. Established in 1931, it has been conducted by Dr. Hurty since 1996.

The 16 members of Augustana Choral Artists are choir alumni, music teachers and accomplished musicians in the area. Now in its second season, the ensemble will perform regularly with the Augustana Choir.

Augustana Choral Artists will be featured in the Handel Oratorio Society’s spring performance of Bach’s “Jesu, meine Freude.”
