Dr. Tom Tredway, former Augustana president and professor emeritus of history, will present the third lecture of this year's Frieze Lecture series, a 22-year partnership between the Rock Island Public Library and Augustana College to present four talks in the fall.

This year's theme is "Student Bill of Rights and Responsibilities," in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the assassination of one of Augustana’s most extraordinary graduates.

Dr. Tom Tredway will will share the story of Bill Sampson, a 1970 graduate of Augustana who left a major mark on the college, then went on to confront the Ku Klux Klan in a struggle that would lead to his murder on Nov. 4, 1979.

Lectures are from 2-3 p.m. Tuesdays at the Rock Island Main Library, 401 19th St., Community Room. Free coffee, cookies and conversation are offered after each lecture
