Augie Sweethearts: Kenneth Stenman '59 and Priscilla King '61

Submitted by Kenneth Stenman of Centennial, Colo.

Mystery in the Chapel

One evening in 1957 a couple from the college stole quietly up the stairs to the deserted seminary chapel. Sun streamed through the stained glass windows. There was a book with a rose on the second pew. In the book were words from Psalm 67:1, 6 and 7, and "Pris: May God be with us and we with Him always, Love you always, Ken."

Many "dates" were in the chemistry lab while Ken did experiments and Priscilla washed test tubes. Was it an omen or a mystery that they committed their lives together in the seminary chapel?

They were married in 1959 and drove from Pennsylvania to Stanford, California, where Ken began graduate work in chemistry; Priscilla attended San Jose State. After a year, they returned to Augustana where Priscilla completed her BA and Ken began seminary studies.

2018, Ken and Priscilla Stenman celebrate 59 years of marriage.
