Program dates: June 18-23, 2017

Includes lodging, all meals and any field trips. Students arrive on campus Sunday, June 18 and depart Friday, June 23.

Course description

Are you interested in producing your own movies and audio? Do you want to maintain a blog that is read by thousands of people? Do you have a passion for thinking about, discussing, and sharing media with your friends? In this workshop, students will learn skills for how to produce media for the digital age, including creating their own blog and taking part in the production of a short film. Students will learn basic skills in film and sound editing, shooting cinematic scenes, and creating their own professional web pages.

Instructor: Dr. George Boone

Dr. George Boone

Dr. George W. Boone is a visiting assistant professor of business administration at Augustana College. He earned his Ph.D in communication from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and studied storytelling and technological development within the late 1980s video game industry. At Augustana, Dr. Boone’s primary teaching responsibilities include business writing, communication theory, and classes that focus on the social effects of technology.

Dr. Boone is passionate about media in all its aspects, including its effects, production, and ability to persuade and shape minds. As a visiting faculty at Augustana, Dr. Boone teaches courses that challenge students to think about how to most effectively craft, send and circulate messages in a variety of settings.
