Tosetti works part-time with John Deere Seeding in Moline, works other part-time jobs and volunteers with the Volunteer Tax Assistance program to prepare tax returns free of charge for low-income households.

Professor Dr. John Delaney, chair of Augustana’s accounting department, said Tosetti’s work in his intermediate accounting and auditing classes last year was outstanding.

“Alex takes his classwork very seriously and it really is amazing how he is able to balance school with his work for multiple employers,” Dr. Delaney said. “Alex will make a great public accountant – he is smart, asks great questions, is quick to learn and demonstrates outstanding leadership potential. I foresee Alex passing the CPA exam in short order and going on to a great career.”

Tosetti said he plans to use the $2,000 award to help pay for his senior year tuition.

“My after-graduation plans include pursuing my CPA and starting my career off at a public accounting firm,” he said. “This award means a lot to me. It is allowing me to pay off more of my student loans while also encouraging me in my path of accounting.”

The scholarship was established in 2019 in partnership with the Illinois CPA Society to honor the firm’s founder, Jim Sikich. According to Sikich, the company provides financial assistance to promising accounting students of all backgrounds and fosters the education and dreams of those who have demonstrated leadership and devotion to their field.
