Intro to J-Term Away

The Office of International and Off-Campus Programs will host two different workshops to help faculty consider, imagine, design and propose a traveling J-Term program for 2019-2020.

Whether you are looking at modifying a current break or trimester abroad program into a January or June intensive course, or if the whole idea of traveling with students is new to you, these workshops will be of great benefit as we look ahead to our calendar conversion.

Today's Intro to J-Term Away is a two-hour workshop on basics on the proposal process for new traveling J-term programs or courses, models you can use, key concepts and regulations, and help with imagining what is possible in your discipline and with the destinations you are considering.

On Thursday, Sept. 7, the Study Away Provider Meet-Up will take place at the same times in Olin 202.

Representatives of four outstanding study away providers will meet with faculty to explain how they work with you to design a travel program, what services and what locations they offer, and how you can get started.

Providers represented will be:

IES Abroad: Familiar to Augustana from their work on our Paris, London, NYC, Siena and Amsterdam programs.

AEA-Academic Experiences Abroad: Our partner for the Cambodia program.

Seminars International: The provider for the entire UMAIE consortium of J-term schools.

Worldstrides: A leader in J-term and short educational travel programs since the late 1960s.
