Alumni from the classes of 2004-2013 are encouraged to make a gift of any size during the challenge.

These gifts to any area of the college can be made online or by phone. Alumni also can participate in A Day of Giving by fulfilling an existing pledge on that day.

President Steve Bahls and Jane Easter Bahls have pledged to increase their Augustana Fund gift by $1,000 if 50 young alumni make a gift today.

Incentives will be announced on the Augustana College and Augustana College Young Alumni Facebook pages throughout the day to encourage young alumni to participate in the challenge.

"Augustana's young alumni made such an impact on campus during their time here on campus," said Lynn Jackson, vice president of advancement.

"They established traditions that current students carry on, such as Christmas at Augustana. By coming together for A Day of Giving, young alumni are helping to ensure these traditions carry on for future generations."

Those who make a gift are encouraged to post about their support on Augustana social media sites and use hashtags #loyalviking and #augiegives.

The goal of A Day of Giving is to increase overall young alumni participation. Alumni play an important role in the success and sustainability of the college.

In addition to providing critical financial resources, alumni participation is a key factor in college and university rankings, including U.S. News and World Report. Prospective students and parents often compare these rankings when making enrollment decisions. Young alumni participation is particularly important because graduates of the last 10 years represent more than 20 percent of all Augustana alumni.
