Vikings place 11th at Maryville Invitational

Freshman Caitlin Dohertywas the second finisher for the Vikings at the Maryville Subway Invitational on Sunday, April 7 and Monday, April 8 at Aberdeen Golf Course in Eureka, Missouri. She had a two-round score of 188 with identical rounds of 94.

EUREKA, Mo. - A short-handed Augustana women's golf team finished up a busy weekend with an 11th place finish at the Maryville Subway Spring Invitational on Sunday, April 7 and Monday, April 8 at Aberdeen Golf Course in Eureka, Missouri. The Vikings were the lone NCAA Division III team in the field as the other 10 teams were all NCAA Division II institutions.

Augustana, with just four players, shot a two-day score of 763 (375+388). Missouri-St. Louis won the event with a score of 608 (300+308) while Southern Indiana was second at 640 (320+320) and host Maryville took third with 647 (315+332). Lewis 654 (321+33) and Southern Indiana B 655 (321+333) were fourth and fifth respectively. Iowa Western at 658 (328+33) and Lindenwood at 663 (338+325) were next in line followed by Illinois-Springfield 670 (322+348), Hannibal-LaGrange 702 (351+351), McKendree 725 (367+358) and Augustana.  

Senior Megan Vandersee (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) was the top finisher for the Vikings with a score of 167 (78+89) to tie for 26th place. Freshman Caitlin Doherty (Westmont HS, Westmont, Ill.), in her first appreciative varsity action, was the second Augustana player with a 188 (94+94). Junior Kelly Olson (Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) had a 191 (93+98) and sophomore Kristen Hirtzer (Mother McAuley HS, Palos Hills, Ill.)  recorded a 217 (110+107).  

Augustana will be in action again on April 12-13 at the Millikin Spring Classic at Scoville Golf Course in Decatur, Illinois.
