Behnke named CCIW "Hitter of the Week"

Augustana sophomore outfielder Laura Behnke (St. Francis HS, Roselle, Ill.) was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) "Hitter of the Week". Behnke batted .632 (12-for-19) with seven runs, two doubles, two home runs, seven runs batted in and a 1.053 slugging percentage to help lead the Vikings to a 5-1 record for the week.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -Augustana sophomore outfielder Laura Behnke (St. Francis HS, Roselle, Ill.) was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) "Hitter of the Week", it was announced on Tuesday, April 2. This is the second time this season that she has captured the honor, the first of which occurred on March 5.

Behnke batted .632 (12-for-19) with seven runs, two doubles, two home runs, seven runs batted in and a 1.053 slugging percentage to help lead the Vikings to a 5-1 record for the week.

The week began on March 27 with a doubleheader against cross-river rival St. Ambrose. In the first game, a 10-2 victory for Augustana, Behnke went 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI. In the second game of the doubleheader, Behnke was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a home run, and two RBI but the Vikings fell 7-5 to the Bees. On March 29, Augustana hosted the 16th ranked Kohawks from Coe. In that game, Behnke accumulated two hits in three at bats, scored two runs and drove in one run to help the Vikings to a 4-3 win. Later that same day, Augustana defeated Ripon 11-0. Behnke was perfect at the plate in that contest going 3-for-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, and a double. In a 3-2 triumph against Wisconsin-LaCrosse on March 30, Behnke was 2-for-4 with a run scored. In the afternoon game versus Wartburg, Behnke was 2-for-3 with one run, an RBI, one double and a steal in the Vikings 8-0 victory.  

Behnke has been a catalyst for the Augustana offense all season long. In 20 games, she has accumulated a .508 batting average, a .580 on base percentage, and a .864 slugging percentage, all of which lead the team. She also is tops on the team in runs (17), hits (30), triples (4), home runs (3), total bases (51) walks (10), and stolen bases (5).

Behnke is an accounting major.
