Augustana opens Chicagoland Office

Augustana College has opened a Chicagoland Office and will host a kick-off admissions event on Sunday, Dec. 2, from 4 to 6 p.m. The regional office is located at located in the Highland Pointe II complex, Suite 201, at 377 E. Butterfield Road, Lombard.
The event will include an admissions presentation, discussion with an alumni panel, questions, conversation and light refreshments. Visitors should register at www.augustana.edu/chicagoland by Wednesday, November 28.
W. Kent Barnds, vice president of enrollment, communication and planning, said, “The great opportunity for Augustana is to more effectively engage prospective students and offer more convenience to the students and families we serve.”
Many prospective Augustana students call Chicago and the surrounding suburbs home, so the new office will make it convenient for students looking at colleges to get to know Augustana before visiting the Rock Island campus, and follow up their visits with additional one-on-one support at the Chicagoland Office. Potential students will be able to attend admissions interviews, college search workshops, Augustana information sessions, fine arts and athletics recruiting events and sessions about the financial assistance process at the new office.
“Because so many of our prospective students are from the Chicago area, we wanted to offer convenience to our applicants by opening an office in the Chicago suburbs,” said President of the College Steven Bahls. “While we know that Chicago-area applicants will continue visit the Quad Cities, we wanted to have admissions counselors in Chicago to strengthen and maintain our already strong presence with Chicago-area high schools.”
The college has hired Courtney Wallace, a native of Galva, Ill., to serve as director of admissions in the Chicago region. Quad-Cities native Jenna Muench will serve as assistant director of admissions in the Chicago region. Wallace previously worked as a regional admissions counselor for Missouri University of Science and Technology, and Muench was previously an advisor to students at Concordia University in Chicago.
According to Wallace, the main objective for her position is to build a larger, more diverse and more engaged prospect pool in Augustana’s key markets by expanding outreach. She added, “We are honored to represent Augustana, and we look forward to sharing the story of Augustana to prospective students.”
President Bahls described the Chicagoland Office as an important accomplishment that ties to the college’s strategic plan, Authentically Augustana: Affirm our Mission, Assure our Future and Assess our Results. One of the imperatives in the plan reads, “Augustana will adopt innovative practices for recruitment and retention.” The plan also aims to “strengthen the college’s outreach and reputation in the Chicago area to sustain our place in our primary market, even as we extend our geographic reach.”
