Vikings fourth at Fun City Classic

BURLINGTON, Iowa- Sophomore Jake Groselak (Lemont HS, Lemont, Ill.) shot matching rounds of 81 this weekend to finish 11th individually and help lead Augustana to a fourth-place team finish at Iowa Wesleyan's Fun City Classic. The tournament was held over two rounds at Spirit Hollow Golf Course. Iowa Western Community College took the team title with five of the top 10 individuals.
Blake Mitchell of the host school was the individual medalist, shooting a first-round 71 on Friday and following it up with a 76 on Saturday.
Freshman Alex Walter (Camp Point Central HS, Camp Point, Ill.) was second among Viking players and tied for 19th overall. He carded an 88 on Friday and came back to shoot Augustana's best round of the tournament with a 79 on Saturday.
Rounding out coach Paul Del Vecchio's Augustana contingent were senior Jeff Paustian (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) (88-84 - 172), who finished 28th, sophomore Josh Kukla (Zion-Benton HS, Winthrop Harbor, Ill.) (84-90 - 174), who tied for 29th and sophomore Grant Murphy (Dunlap HS, Peoria, Ill.) (89-88 - 177), who was 34th.
After Iowa Western (314-305 - 619), Illinois Central Community College (329-307 - 636) was second, followed by Monmouth (347-319 - 666) and Augustana (341-332 - 673). The Iowa Wesleyan (339-336 - 675) finished fifth, William Penn (332-347 - 679) sixth, and Culver Stockton (346-334 - 680) seventh.
The Fun City Classic wrapped up the men's fall season. They'll open the spring portion of the schedule at Knox's Prairie Fire Classic on March 29 & 30 in Galesburg, Illinois.
