Leazer wins CCIW "Player of the Week" honor

Sophomore Emily Leazer was named the "Player of the Week" in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin after leading the Vikings to a 5-0 record last week, including a championship in the Alverno Tournament where Leazer was voted the MVP. She is the first Augustana volleyball player to earn "Player of the Week" honors in the CCIW since Jaime Spolum on September 23, 2008.

Augustana sophomore outside hitter Emily Leazer (St. Viator HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) was named the "Volleyball Player of the Week" in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin after an outstanding week. Leazer, who became the first Viking to win "Player of the Week" in volleyball since Jaime Spolum on September 23, 2008, was instrumental in helping her team win five matches last week.

Augustana defeated North Park 3-1 (25-22; 16-25; 25-21; 25-22) on Tuesday, September 11 on the road in the CCIW opener in Chicago. The Vikings then beat Knox (25-16; 25-16; 25-11), Alverno (25-10; 25-13; 25-21), Beloit (25-10; 25-18; 25-14) and Beloit again (25-14; 25-18; 25-16) all in 3-0 decisions to win the Alverno Tournament in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Friday, September 14 and Saturday, September 15.

After leading Augustana with 16 kills in the win over North Park, Leazer earned MVP honors at Alverno. In Friday's two matches, Leazer recorded 17 service aces-eight against Knox, which tied for third-most in school history, and then a school record-tying nine against Alverno. She finished the tournament with team highs of 42 kills and 24 aces and was second with 28 digs.

For the week she had 58 kills and a .281 hitting percentage for the Vikings. She also had 28 service aces and 42 digs. She tied an Augustana school record with nine service aces against Alverno and she had the third highest single match total with eight against Knox.

Leazer, an applied math & computer science major, is the daughter of John and Ann Leazer of Mt. Prospect, Illinois.
